Hawaii 2017

As you all know we went to Hawaii in October, we spent the entire week on the island of Kauai.  It took us a while to decide which island to visit this time and we were not disappointed!  Of course, I highly doubt we would have been disappointed with any island we chose, but we were very impressed with the beauty of Kauai and the variety of things to do and places to explore.  Let's get started!

Ready, get set....sit in an airplane for six hours (the only bad thing about Hawaii...it's far away).

First sighting of land!

Drive to condo.

Condo in Poipu.

Poipu Beach where we stayed.  Great snorkeling!
We took a drive on Sunday and found some beautiful places to stop....

The Robinson's arrived Sunday night and Agnes immediately got in the spirit of Hawaii!

Beautiful morning view.

Started Monday out with some snorkeling.

Poipu was a great place to snorkel...large area with lots of different kinds of beautiful sea life.  Wish I had an underwater camera!
Just so you know, this is pretty much what we looked like all week.

Fun on the beach.

Oh and there were quite a few treats consumed.

Beautiful scenery.

Kauai is pretty much this green everywhere.

Took a cruise to a fern grotto.

When we walked up into the grotto we were surrounded by this kind of scenery....and also surrounded with a very dense humidity...ugh.

Monday evening we went to a luau and these peacocks were everywhere.  We were told they could be mean so we were a little careful....

Cute banana tree.

Getting ready to pull out the delicious dinner!

Poor piggy....
...but oh so delicious!
Waiting patiently for our turn...

Thirsty???

Yeah, it was good!
More pretty scenery.

Botanical gardens on Tuesday.

Writing name on signature leaves.

View from top....definitely worth the hike.

There was no end to the beautiful shots.
Cool hut.

Stragglers....actually they made the most of the hike by reading every sign and learning a lot more than the rest of us.

Yep....we did the hike.

Made it to the end with a pretty huge walking stick on one side and Scott on the other.

Yep, you guessed it....pretty scenery.
Wednesday was chocolate plantation day, woo hoo!! You are looking at one of very many chocolate trees...yes, it was like being in heaven itself.

VERY interesting and fun tour guide.

Vanilla beans.

These guys were EVERYWHERE!

We also tasted some very interesting fruits that I cannot remember the names of....the long yellow one on the left is star fruit. As for the rest, your guess is as good as mine.

They also raise bees for honey and Agnes took the honey challenge!

More chocolate trees.

The pods can only be opened with a machete!

Cacao beans!

They taste like wood! Chocolate definitely requires sugar.

Fun on the farm.

Later that day we went for a bike ride.

There was a bike path that ran right along the coast and it was beautiful!!!

We saw some beautiful scenery to say the least....

Twinners.

Cooled off with some shave ice.

On Thursday we took a day cruise up the Na'apali Coast on the west side of the island.

We saw a ton of dolphin.
They even did some flips for us.

Very Vogue-esque, I think.

Stopped for some snorkeling along the way.

Long day on the boat.

After the cruise we drove up Waimea Canyon...

...it was very cool.

On Friday we canoed around the river bend...

...just around the river bend...

...just about everyone did some cliff jumping...yes, that is Scott...

...trudged through some more mud...
...and some water...

...and made it to the falls...thanks to another big walking stick and Scott walking behind me singing "Come, Come Ye Saints" No, I do not want to elaborate.
Finished off the day with Puka Dogs!!
And we'll end with some more beautiful scenery....

Another amazing adventure...thanks for stopping by!
